Wikipedia Pageviews Seismograph

Wikipedia Seismograph compares a seven-day moving average of pageviews for up to four Wikipedia pages and charts the big swings in page views. Start by specifying up to four Wikipedia pages, like McDonald's, Burger King, and Taco Bell.

When you've selected your pages, select a start and end date you want to graph. Your start date can be no earlier than January 1, 2017. I find it best to do two or three months at a time so the graphs don't get too busy. Once you've selected your pages and dates, click the Visualize button. A chart and more instructions will appear below.

The chart below shows spikes in a Wikipedia's pageview count over a seven day moving average. To see the page counts, hover your mouse over the timeline; you'll get a tooltip of each page's view count for each day. To turn a particular timespan into a Google News search, simply click on the beginning and end of the date range you want to include in the Google Search. Two red lines will appear that bracket the span.

Underneath the chart you'll get a form showing the Wikipedia pages viewed along with checkboxes to include or remove them from the search and a radio button that toggles the entire search between OR and AND. Once you've got the search arranged like you want it, click the Search Google News button to open the search in a new tab. There's also a Remove This Search button if you want to remove the lines and create a different span (you can have multiple spans marked on the chart at the same time.)
