Wikipedia Attention Surfer

This tool combines temporal trend analysis with topical connections on Wikipedia. Track pageview trends over time, then discover related pages with similar viewing patterns on specific dates of interest.

How to use this tool
  1. Add Wikipedia Pages: Enter up to four Wikipedia page titles
  2. Select Date Range: Choose a time period to analyze
  3. Create Timeline: Generate a seismograph showing viewing pattern deviations
  4. Explore Events: Click on any point in the timeline to see related pages with similar traffic patterns on that date
  5. Discover Connections: Explore pages with similar Z-scores to find topical relationships based on audience interest

About Z-scores: A Z-score measures how unusual the page views were on a selected date compared to normal traffic. Scores greater than 1.5 indicate unusually high traffic, while less than -1.5 suggests unusually low traffic.

Select a time period to analyze (tip: 2-3 months works best)

Timeline Analysis

Using the timeline:
• Hover over the timeline to see exact pageview counts for each day
• Click on any point in the timeline to mark a date of interest
• Use the "Analyze Pages" button to explore pages with similar traffic patterns on that day
• You'll be able to select which categories to analyze for related pages
• The chart shows deviations from the 7-day moving average, highlighting unusual activity
